EPA Coal Decision Levels Playing Field for Wind, Solar

Building an alt-energy power plant is risky and expensive, but thanks to a new ruling by an Environmental Protection Agency panel, building coal plant may become riskier and more expensive.

The Environmental Appeals Board blocked the EPA from issuing a permit to a proposed coal plant addition near Vernal, Utah, about 150 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Perhaps more importantly, the quasi-independent board, composed of four highly regarded, experienced judges, ruled that the EPA needs to develop a single nationwide standard for dealing with carbon dioxide.

The current EPA, for its part, was none too happy that they must reconsider their policies, even if it will ultimately give the organization wider powers.

But the Appeals Board decision combined with the Supreme Court ruling makes it likely that the EPA will begin using the Clean Air Act in just that way, which will have implications that will reverberate through the economy. The policies towards clean air and green environment all have commonality, home based wind power plants are made easy and affordable to build and maintain.

The stricter the EPA limits on carbon dioxide, the more money coal plant operators will have to throw at technologies to reduce their CO2 emissions. That will eventually make coal power more expensive, which climate-change action advocates hope will make solar, wind, nuclear and other low-carbon technologies more competitive.

Eight (8) Year Solar Tax Credit Extension signed into Law.

Today, by a vote of 263-171, the U.S. House of Representatives passed historic legislation that extends the 30-percent federal investment tax credit for both residential and commercial solar installations for 8 years.

This landmark legislation is part of H.R. 1424, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, designed to address the U.S. financial crisis. It is the most significant federal policy ever enacted for the solar industry. President Bush has already signed the bill into law.

The solar tax credit provisions will:

· Extend for 8 years the 30-percent tax credit for both commercial and residential solar installations;

· Eliminate the $2,000 monetary cap for residential solar electric installations, creating a true 30-percent credit;

· Eliminate the prohibition on utilities from benefiting from the credit;

· Allow Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) filers, both businesses and families, to take the credit; and

· Authorize $800 million for clean energy bonds for renewable energy generating facilities, including solar.

BOULDER - 10/2/08 - Record numbers of families and businesses looking to protect themselves against soaring energy costs and a volatile economy will find a sunny, new approach this weekend.

The 13th annual National Solar Tour kicks off in 49 states and nearly 3,000 communities across the U.S., showing participants how to go solar and harvest free energy from the sun while saving money on monthly utility bills. Congress is set to vote on the solar tax credits TONIGHT in the U.S. Senate and then in the U.S. House.

We need your immediate help to extend the solar tax credits. Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 will extend the solar residential and commercial Investment Tax Credits for eight years and will remove the monetary cap. Now is the time to act.

Is it easy to complete the solar and wind power home project?

Being an engineer you think it was easy for me, no not at all. The blue prints, design manuals and dummies sources are available.

Getting correct source is important. My friend who is not an engineer said "I have done it". I did not believe, he invited us to see his project. He really made it and all in all.

Wind turbine was generating power day and night and solar panels adding to it in the day time. He was joyous and showing me all bills he paid to get the project complete. The expenses were nothing to what is achieved.

He will now reap savings every month.
